Basic Ideas On File Sharing

054 file sharingFile sharing refers to the practice of distributing or providing access to the digitally stored information like multimedia in the form of images, audio, and videos. It can also be document or electronic books or computer programs. File sharing can be implemented in several ways. The usual methods used in file sharing are transmission, storage and dispersion that includes manual sharing utilizing removable media, World Wide Web based hyperlinked documents, centralized servers on computer networks and the use of distributed peer to peer networking.

With the advent of technology, file sharing is made easier and faster. People nowadays rely on internet and electronic gadgets to gather information.

Peer to peer file sharing is a type of file sharing wherein users can use software that connects in to a peer to peer network to search for shared files in the computers of other users that are connected to the network. This means that, when you wanted to access or to get a copy of certain file you can download it directly from other users on the network. In cases of large files, the files where broken down into smaller chunks of files and can be obtained from multiple peers and then reassembled by the downloader.

There is also this file hosting services. File hosting services is considered as an alternative to peer to peer software. This type of file sharing is usually used together with the internet collaboration tools such as forums, blogs, email and other medium that are link to direct downloads from the file hosting services can be embedded.

The legalities of this file sharing have been controversial. Since documents, files and information are accessible via online, many people or companies have filed lawsuits against it. One of the most controversial is the case between MGM and Grokster wherein the case has reached the Supreme Court of the United States. The usual cases involved copyright laws and the likes.

File sharing is not really illegal even though if the works being shared are covered by copyright. Remember that content in the public domain can also be shared freely. But distributing, copying and downloading files without permission of the copyright holder are considered illegal. Let us take an artist for example, when an artist released a song or movie, their product are protected by copyright law. Therefore this copyright abstain other people from copying or distributing the products without paying for that copyright.

File sharing is indeed good as long as you are using it the right way without violating the rights of others.

What Is Bandwidth: Defined And Explained

085 what is bandwidthYou might be familiar with the term bandwidth. This is commonly use in computer networks. You may have heard about this but it’s also possible that you have no idea what it is. Now you will be able to understand more about it as you continue to read this page. Now, what is a bandwidth? In computer networks, it is often used as a synonyms for data transfer rate, it tells the amount of data that can be carried from point to another in a given time period. This kind of bandwidth is normally measured or expressed in bits per second or bps. On other times, it is expressed as bytes per second or Bps. For instance, a modem that works at 57,600 bps has twice the bandwidth of a modem that works at 28,800 bps. In short, it is simply saying that a link with a high bandwidth is one that may be able to carry enough information to sustain the succession of images in a video presentation. One thing that should be remembered is that a real communications path usually consists of a succession of links, each with its own bandwidth. In case one of these is a much slower than the rest, it is said to be a bandwidth bottleneck.

Another function of bandwidth is for electronics communication where the bandwidth is read as the width of the range or band of frequencies that an electronic signal uses on a given transmission medium. The bandwidth is expressed in terms of the difference between the highest-frequency signal component and the lowest-frequency signal component in that type of usage. Another is the frequency of a signal is measured in hertz (the number of cycles of change per second), a given bandwidth is the difference in hertz between the highest frequency the signal uses and the lowest frequency it uses. For example, a typical voice signal has bandwidth of approximately three kilohertz; an analog television broadcast video signal has a bandwidth of six megahertz, but some are 2,000 times as wide as the voice signal.

Another definition of bandwidth is it I used to describe network speeds, it doesn’t measure how fast bits of data move from one location to another. But do you have any idea who is providing your bandwidth for your internet connection? It’s your internet service provider. They are the one who is giving you the speed of your connection for your internet and same goes with you TV and cable.

Computers. What are we without them? Maybe we’ll be thrown back to the Stone Age. Or maybe not. But the point is our life is now manipulated by this man-made phenomenon. Together with the internet, these two are irreplaceable. You can build and destroy with these mechanisms. Great and unthought-of inventions and developments are made true with a lot of help from computers. It can make your life complicated. Of course, to those computer-illiterate, this is a very difficult subject. It might even cause them more harm than benefit. But once you get the hang of it, it can also make your life easier. From schoolwork, office work, math, statistics, economics, and all other fields of interest now make use of computers. Well, not really. The people are actually the ones utilizing its gifts. That is why as users, we should know how to value our units. Make sure that they are of good condition and to retain it for its maximum life span. These are precious and they cost a lot of money. So, what are the ways in order to avoid replacing your computers at home soon? Why not start with how you save your files?

Saving files is practically what most users do in common. Whatever we do in front of our screens, aside from clicking the exit button, we wrap up by hitting the save button. In saving, you will be asked to place your filename, whether it is a download or a new composition. People, especially students, are fond of putting the shortest filenames possible. They vary from single letter of the alphabet or numbers from 1-9. They believe that you can always see the thumbnails in case you forget your one-digit filename in the future. But this should not be the case. Make sure that the next time you hit that button you type in a phrase or any relevant keyword that speaks something about the content you are saving. This will help you in browsing files few years from now. It will be much easier to look for your files if it has a unique keyword attached to it. Another technique that could help you would be categorizing your files. You can provide folders for different categories that you find most common among your usual files. You can start by making a folder for school stuff, work research, skin health, and another for personal memos. Then you can categorize further the content of each main location by subject or by file type. You can create a “Video” folder wherein you could place all video files you have. This could be a good start in organizing your files and saving up space for your computer as well.

You may also want to save a file to an external storage system such as flash drives, save it first in the system, and then copy it in the drive. It is a safeguard method especially when the saving process is too long. Things may happen such as unplanned removal of the drive, because if that happens when there is still a writing process, it could corrupt not only the file, but also the whole external drive. Third and last, always back-up files. You don’t want to start again when something goes wrong, right? Always save files on time. Don’t wait for system errors. By backing up, you could always have insurance so that when you need it, you could just find for it in the backup source.

We are all blessed by the technology around us, but it is we who knows what lies ahead of us. Sometimes, people get mad at computers because of some error or some important file is lost. But in the end, it may be actually their mistake. It could be some misstep in creating files, or some wrong button clicked. Computers are just machines, and we are people. We are humans.  So don’t think that computers could do anything. It is because, after all, you have the power to save.
